The Church all over the world has played a significant role in the economic and social liberation of the people aside from her core religious responsibilities. From Europe to Latin America and Africa, the Church has remained a catalyst for development and social justice. In Nigeria for instance, the role of the Church in national development and peaceful coexistence cannot be overemphasized. JDPC Owerri Archdiocese is a structured response to the Second Vatican Council appealing for the Church’s involvement in the affairs and development of the society. The Commission is the unit of the Pontifical Commission for Justice in the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of Owerri, as part of the Vatican’s Department of Church and Society of the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri. JDPC Owerri Archdiocese is founded and structured in accordance with its mandate to promote social actions for the development of a just and peaceful society where everyone can attain their potentials without any bias to race, gender, religion, tongue and colour. It is an organ of the Church that relates with the society, especially in the areas of good governance advocacy, entrepreneurship development, medical outreaches, skill acquisition, education sponsorship and legal intervention. The Commission also has a branch known as the Eu-Care that focuses primarily on humanitarian interventions.
